Supplies:
1 skein knitting worsted or lighter
1 set size 7 (US) needles
Tapestry needle
Cast on:
Small cloth *: 27 stitches
Large cloth: 45 stitches
Knit border for 1 inch, garter or moss stitch. Then begin pattern.
Pattern:
Row 1: B4,*k1,p2,k1,p2,k1,p1*,k1,B4.
Row 2: B4,*k3,p2,k2,p2,1,p2,k2,p2,k2*,p1,B4.
Row 3: B4,*p1,k2,p2,p2,k2,p3,k2,p2,k2,p2*,k1,B4.
Row 4: B4,*k1,p2,k2,p2,k5,p2,k2,p2*,p1,B4.
Repeat these 4 rows till one border distance from desired length. Knit border, bind off and weave in ends.
*Small cloth could be a mug rug or cast on for small cloth and knit a back scrubber.
Bind off all but 3 stitches, knit I-cord for 9" bind off and attach to other side of scrubber. Knit another I-cord handle 9" long and sew to the cast on end.

Small Whitby Chevron Pattern Cloth on needles
Pattern was improved so there is a "well" on each side of the border, like left side of cloth, making it even. Great texture on both sides.

For Back Scrubber, knit pattern till approximately 19" in length, knit border and bind off all but three stitches, transfer to double point needles and make an I-cord that is 9". Bind off and sew open end to other side of the scrubber. Cast on 3 stitches on double point needles and knit an I-cord 9" in length. Sew to the cast on side of scrubber.
For place mat: Knit to desired width, knit binding and weave in ends. This cloth is reversible.
